Speaking of Jesus in many languages

According to Scripture, there are many ways in which Christ’s atoning work is good news for every person, whatever his or her experiences. (Our word atonement comes from the Old English word onement, which meant reconciliation.)

How might we hear the gospel when we are…

…defeated, weak or being threatened?

…experiencing the deadening effects of sin?

…guilt-ridden sinners?

…enslaved, trapped, or victims?

…dirty, with ruined reputations and consciences?
…unable to see any possibilities?

…unable to seen any possibility of good?

…abandoned, alone?

…enslaved to sin’s destructive habits?

…disabled, excluded, always on the outside?

…at war with other people?

Scripture says:

The cross is the power of God (1 Corinthians 1:18)

God made you alive with Christ (Colossians 2:13)

The Lord has forgiven you (Colossians 3:13)

Christ has set us free (Galatians 5:1)

Jesus’ blood cleanses us (1 John 1:7)

God births us into hope through Jesus’ resurrection (1 Peter 1:3)

In the Lord you are light; live as children of light (Ephesians 5:8)

Jesus is God with us (Matthew 1:21–23)

God is working in you to will and do his pleasure (Philippians 2:13)

We have obtained access through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:2)

Jesus has reconciled enemies in his body (Ephesians 2:14)
