Executive director of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Canada Don Peters says the situation in Syria is likely to worsen, calling for more to be done for the 3 million people displaced by the conflict. In Lebanon, temporary home to 1 million Syrian refugees, Peters observed the desperate need for shelter, food, and medical assistance. To date, MCC has dedicated more than $4 million to providing funds, blankets, relief kits, clothing, and footwear, and supporting peacebuilding programs in Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan. “What struck me was that maybe half of the [workers] we met were themselves displaced from their homes,” says Peters. He asks Canadians to remember the people of Syria and those helping them in their prayers.
