How much of your worship service is spent reading and hearing Scripture? Ten percent? Fifteen? More? Less? In 2004, Constance Cherry, who teaches worship and Christian ministries at Indiana Wesleyan University, surveyed a wide variety of churches in the U.S. to see how much time was spent reading Scripture during worship. She discovered that in traditional, contemporary and “blended” churches, only 2–5 percent of the service was spent reading the Word. In most congregations, significantly more time was taken for announcements than for Scripture reading.
On Nov. 9, the community of Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary installed Dr. Franklyn “Lynn” Jost as the seminary’s eighth president. Jost has served as acting president of the seminary since September 2008.

It was a historic moment when the delegate body at Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Canada’s annual meeting, held in Winnipeg in November, endorsed seven foundational statements to guide the work of MCC, the final of the 12 MCC entities to do so.
Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) ended a difficult financial year in the black, and helped “almost 2.8 million families to live healthier, happier lives through 120 partnerships in 44 countries,” reported MEDA president Allan Sauder, at the annual Business as Calling convention in San Jose, Cal., Nov. 5–8.

Our 150th anniversary: Celebrating what God has done worldwide
When my daughter turned 30, a box arrived via parcel post from her brother and sister-in-law. When she opened it there were 30 presents, each with 30 items! It was so much fun to share her joy during the hour or so it took to open this kaleidoscope of generosity.
The Mennonite Brethren movement began 150 years ago in southern Russia with 18 families. Today, we are a diverse group of 18 conferences in 15 countries representing some 300,000 people, with church planting work being done by MBMS International workers in at least another dozen countries.
