Volunteers from churches and schools in Leamington and surrounding area produced a record 17,215 tins of canned turkey, April 20-23, 2009, in Leamington, Ont., with the Mennonite Central Committee mobile meat canner. Besdies canning 30,000 lbs. of turkey thighs, volunteers raised $70,000.
By August, MCC had sent more than 400,000 cans to North Korea, Honduras, Burundi, Ukraine, Haiti and others, in the 2009 fiscal year.
