This magnificent, full-colour coffee-table book traces one Russian immigrant’s experience through his art, from Neufeld’s arrival in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ont., to his time in Cleveland, Ohio; New York; and New England, to his travels across Canada. Neufeld’s oils, watercolours, and block prints reflect the structures that sheltered his life: the town halls, farmer’s markets, fishing shacks, churches, and “sky scrapers of the west” (grain elevators), in styles from abstract to realistic. —Angeline Schellenberg
