Testimony: We don’t believe in miracles – we rely on them
by ContributorThere’s an aphorism that’s been hanging outside our study for more than 20 years: “We don’t believe in miracles. We rely upon them.” This saying had always been nothing but head knowledge to us, but we came to realize its profound meaning through some recent experiences.
The term “miracle” is derived from the Latin word miraculum meaning “something wonderful.” But due to its casual use in our day, the term has lost much of its lustre.

It’s the resurrection of Dorcas, who was part of the Christian community in Joppa, a city that today is part of Tel-Aviv and is one of the oldest city-ports of the eastern Mediterranean world. Dorcas is apparently a well-to-do woman – perhaps even the widow of a sea captain.
This month, our three denominational periodicals – the MB Herald, MB Chinese Herald and Le Lien – have partnered together to bring you an issue on miracles. We’ve collected articles by French, Chinese, and English-speaking authors to bring you a wide variety of perspectives on the subject.
