Usually when a smaller congregation closes to join a larger one, it’s because the former is in trouble. But that’s not why Gateway Christian Fellowship, the newest of St. Catharines’ six MB churches, celebrated their 10-year anniversary by becoming a campus of Southridge Community Church’s new multisite venture.
Sasha (Sarba Shanti Ayog), a not-for-profit marketing organization, was started in Calcutta, India, 31 years ago to help craftspeople earn a decent living through improving and better promoting their products. With sustainable employment, the craftspeople are able to stay in their villages “instead of migrating to the cities and living degrading lives,” said Sasha’s executive director Roopa Mehta.
Leadership isn’t a new topic, especially within the Canadian conference. In fact, developing leaders is one of the conference’s six strategic goals and services. Four years ago, the conference commissioned a pastoral trends survey, and found that nearly 39 percent of participants indicated they would be leaving the conference – creating a leadership vacuum in many churches.
