Ministry in MAiD

MB Seminary offers individual or small group study led by Dr. Gloria Woodland

In 2022, over 13,000 Canadians accessed Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), which is up 31 percent from 2021. The ethical, moral, and theological questions regarding the program are abundant and complex, and the issue is only growing in complexity and scope.

In response, MB Seminary has developed an eight-week small group study using video content from Dr. Gloria Woodland, a leading voice on the topic of understanding ministry in MAiD. Dr. Woodland is Director of Chaplaincy Program and Associate Professor of Chaplaincy Studies and Spiritual Care at MB Seminary.

During the study, Dr. Woodland will present a basic understanding of end-of-life care and MAiD as well as offer insight into patient, family and healthcare worker perspectives. Participants will increase their theological understanding of Scripture and theology as how to support individuals impacted by another’s decision to access MAiD.

Groups of up to 12 people can register for an eight-week study that features weekly teaching (professionally recorded presentations) and discussion questions that are accessible online. The group can also schedule one Zoom call with Dr. Woodland with questions they may have.

This small group option is available between January-April 2024. For more information, visit mbseminary.ca
