The sanctuary of Richmond Chinese MB Church was filled with leaders who answered that call. Former Willingdon MB pastor Carlin Weinhauer, who is now semi-retired and works as a mobilizer for MBMSI, opened the afternoon with a devotional message, reminding kingdom labourers that “it’s a spiritual work we are called to.” It was a message that moved many, and led into a time of prayer at each table.
On a personal note, this is my last issue at the editor’s desk before I embark on another maternity leave. For my family, the transition means another baby in our lives. Sophia is looking forward to her new role as a big sister!

Bringing light to the valley of shadows
by James ToewsThere is nothing like a newborn to light up a room – and we entered with twins. Four months old and in all their identical glory. With three children of our own and two other grandchildren, the usual baby fussing isn’t a novelty. But I must admit that carrying twins around warms even my slightly jaded heart.
A decade ago, I wrote an article for the Herald on homosexuality, Welcoming and yet not affirming (Nov. 5, 1999), which attempted to assess the impact of this issue in the life of the church and culture, and, if possible, provide some direction to the church as we sought to live faithfully as followers of Christ.
