William Schmidt died June 9, 2010. He was born July 28, 1916 on the family estate in Krasnopol, Russia to Jacob and Elizabeth (Born) Schmidt. They immigrated to Canada in 1926, settling in Coaldale, Alta. William married Mary Toews. After college, together with his brother John, William directed the Gospel Light Hour, now Family Life Network. He pastored in Kitchener, Ont., 1959–1964 and at Elmwood MB Church, Winnipeg, 1967–1972. He later spent 8 years travelling across Canada promoting the stewardship ministry of the Canadian MB conference. In 1980, he began his last formal position as manager of Menno Court, a seniors’ residence, in Vancouver, B.C. Predeceased by daughter Loreen, 5 siblings; William is mourned by wife of 67 years Mary; children Leona Thiessen, William, Lillian; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers. The memorial was June 16 at Bakerview MB Church in Abbotsford, B.C.
