Roy Adams died Oct. 30, 2010. He was born Sept. 10, 1935 in Erith, London, England to Gordon and Emily Adams. They immigrated to Canada in 1948, settling in Surrey, B.C. Roy left school to support the family as a ship hand, shoe salesman, and typewriter ribbon salesman. One job took him to Hazelton, B.C., where he heard the gospel, accepted Jesus as Saviour, and was baptized. Roy’s life focus changed, and he began preparing for ministry. He attended Trinity Western University (TWU) and McMaster University en route to earning an MDiv. At TWU, Roy met Dora Neufeld, whom he married July 30, 1966, at Fraserview MB Church, Richmond, B.C. He pastored a small church in Ormiston, Sask. In the 1980s, he worked as a counsellor in a Vancouver drug and alcohol treatment centre. Roy’s passion remained on ministry, and he insisted that it have a generational focus. He founded PrimeTime, Monday Morning Assistance, and FreshStart at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Surrey, B.C.; these ministries, as well as others he supported until his diagnosis of aggressive brain cancer in June, will be an enduring legacy. Roy is mourned by Dora; children Mary-Em (Tim) Waddington, Gordon (Simone), Jeffrey (Shannon); 2 grandchildren; 4 siblings.
