martha wiebeMartha Wiebe died Jan. 19, 2012 at 95. She was born Oct. 9, 1916 in Alexandradar, Russia to Abram Wiebe and Anna Stobbe. The family immigrated to Canada in 1925, settling in Hochfeld, Man., where Martha completed Grade 8 at the village school. In her teens, Martha surrendered her life to Jesus. In 1934, the family moved to Poplar Point, Man. Martha assisted her father on the farm in summer and worked in Winnipeg during the winter. The family moved to Yarrow, B.C., in 1944, where Martha and her sisters operated a berry farm. She was baptized Sept. 17, 1944, into Yarrow MB Church. She enjoyed Bible studies and the Yarrow Why Encounter team. While doing housework in Vancouver, Martha completed her high school education, and in Sept. 1955, entered Vancouver normal school. She spent the next 26 years at Atchelitz Elementary in Chilliwack school district. Martha was deeply committed her students. She taught women to sew. She loved baking, flower gardening, photography, and travelling. Martha prayed for nieces and nephews regularly. In 1998, Martha and her sisters moved to Abbotsford, B.C. Due to glaucoma and macular degeneration, her vision deteriorated rapidly, as did her health. She transferred to Menno Intermediate Care August 2010. Predeceased by 3 siblings, 4 siblings in infancy; Martha is mourned by 2 sisters; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
