LMatties_deathsLouise Matties died Mar. 17, 2012 at 97. She was born Dec. 29, 1914 in Stepanovka, Russia to Isbrand Riesen and Katharina Bergen. Louise’s mother died Feb. 12, 1923, and her father later remarried. In 1926, when the family immigrated to Canada, Louise had to remain in England for 11 months. The family settled in Manitoba, then moved to Gem, Alta., in 1929. Louise was baptized into Gem MB Church, where she served in choir and Sunday school. The family moved to Yarrow, B.C., in 1933. Louise married Jacob Matties Oct. 22, 1945. They moved to Abbotsford, B.C., in 1970, joining first Bakerview MB Church, and in 1997, Clearbrook MB Church. They moved to Menno Home. As a widow, Louise continued to trust the Lord’s promises. Predeceased by Jacob Jan. 14, 2008, Louise is mourned by 1 sister; nieces and nephews.
