d01-JohannPennerJohann (Hans) Penner died June 2, 2011. He was born Nov. 20, 1927 in Alexandrowka, Ukraine to Heinrich and Maria Penner. His father was exiled to labour camp in Siberia, never to be seen again. The family escaped to Germany during WWII, settling in Neuland, Paraguay. Johann was baptized into the MB church. After a few years of pioneering and ranching, he worked 18 years at the leprosy hospital Km 81 in Paraguay. Johann married Agnes Janzen of Friesland in 1960. In 1975, the family immigrated to Abbotsford, B.C. They worked at Tabor Home, then planted churches in Peru for 6 years with MB Mission. In his retirement, Johann loved playing chess and bragging about his children and grandchildren. Johann was an active member of King Road MB Church, Abbotsford. He died of a massive stroke. Johann is mourned by Agnes; children Marvin (Jenny), Paul (Debbie), Karin (Brian) Farquhar; 4 grandchildren; 2 siblings.
