In 1926, Jake’s family immigrated to Canada, settling first in Arnaud, Man., then moving to Mullingar, Sask., in 1928, and Abbotsford, B.C., in 1936. Jake and Anne lived in Whalley and New Westminster, B.C. Jake worked as a bus driver for Pacific Stage Lines. He served as church musician, leading choirs and organizing instrumental groups. After Anne’s death, he married Mary Decker, a fellow volunteer at Mennonite Central Committee.
