d-helen-bergmanHelen Bergmann died Oct. 20, 2009. She was born Aug. 10, 1927 to Jacob and Lydia Reimer. Two traumatic events marked her early years: the accidental death of her 5-year-old brother, and the death of her mother when Helen was 13. Her father later remarried. In the late 1940s, the family relocated to Vineland, Ont., where Helen met Walter Bergmann. They were married Aug. 29, 1953, after Helen’s graduation as a nurse. Helen was a correspondent for the MB Herald, and the Mennonitische Rundschau for many years. Her children thank their parents for instilling in them a love for God’s Word, and for prayer. Family devotions were important. At the end of her life, bedridden after heart surgery and a stroke, Helen quoted Scripture and remembered hymns. Predeceased by 3 siblings, 1 sister-in-law; Helen is mourned by Walter; children Ruth (Bob) Froese, John (Maxine), Beth (Harold) Bartel, Barb (Carl) Heinrichs, Harold (Diane); 13 grandchildren; 2 siblings, 3 in-laws. The memorial service was Oct. 26 at Cornerstone Community Church, Virgil, Ont.
