George Matthies died Jan. 4, 2012. He was born July 4, 1929 in Manitou, Man. to Isaac Abraham Matthies and Hilda Giesbrecht. George grew up in Black Creek, B.C. At Bible school in Abbotsford, B.C., he met Anne Friesen, and they married May 5, 1950. George and Anne enjoyed camping, fishing, playing games, visiting old friends, and travelling in their RV. George specialized in diesel mechanics, working across B.C. and Alberta. George served as head usher, treasurer, School school teacher, boys’ club leader, choir member, and building supervisor for several church renovation projects. He was a member of Clearbrook MB Church, Abbotsford. Predeceased by 3 sisters, son-in-law Tom Boychuk; George is mourned by Anne; children Charlotte Boychuk (John Tyler), James (Ellie), Jonathan; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 sister.
