Elizabeth Goertzen died Nov. 7, 2011. She was born Aug. 26, 1923 in Rueckenau, Ukraine to Abram P. and Katharine Bergmann. When Elizabeth was 2, the family immigrated to Canada, settling in Ste. Anne, Man. She spent her early adult years teaching throughout Manitoba. Elizabeth married John E. Goertzen, Apr. 22, 1956. Elizabeth enjoyed collecting antiques and butterflies, tending gardens, upholstering furniture for each of her children, quilting for MCC, and growing African violets to raise fund for the thrift store. She compiled information on her Bergmann roots. Her memory verse cards were a source of strength during her hospital stays. Elizabeth was a devoted wife and mother, and an active member of Steinbach (Man.) MB Church for more than 50 years, serving with the missions sisters, singing in a ladies trio, and by decorating the church for Thanksgiving. Predeceased by her stillborn son, 6 siblings; Elizabeth is mourned by John; children John (Linda), Dave (Neom), Marianne (Terry) Heide, Ernie; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.
