When Agnes was young, her father was deported to Siberia, and she never saw him again. After WWII, her family fled to an MCC camp in Gronau, Germany, and waited a year and a half to immigrate to Canada. They settled in Gem, Alta. When Agnes worked as a housemaid in Calgary, she met John, and they made a home in Coaldale, Alta. Because John became partly disabled, Agnes did farm work and housekeeping, including for Coaldale Hospital for nearly 20 years. Agnes and John moved to Sunny South Lodge in February 2009; he died in November. Agnes began having more acute health problems in 2012, so she moved closer to her children. She will be remembered for her cheerful, forgiving, hospitable nature.
