Stacey Weeks joined the MB Herald team as part-time Ontario regional correspondent Nov. 15. Stacey has written a variety of feature and news articles for the MB Herald, served as a columnist for the St. Catharines Standard, and written for magazines such as Canadian Family, Just Between Us, and Let’s Worship, and blogs regularly at staceyweeks.wordpress.com. She will work from her home in St. Catharines, Ont. Stacey is a member of Orchard Park Bible Church, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. She and Kevin have 3 children.

Paul Loewen began a 12-month assignment as transitional lead pastor at Waterloo (Ont.) MB Church, Oct. 15. Currently moderator of the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches, Paul has served on the executive board for 10 years. He has previously worked as church and donor relations representative for Columbia Bible College, as a pastor in various capacities (including church planter in Abbotsford, B.C.), and in construction, and as a business owner. He holds a BRE from Briercrest Bible College, Caronport, Sask., a BA from University of Waterloo, Ont., and an MDiv from MBBS Fresno, Cal. Paul and Melody have 3 adult sons.

Darren Kennedy began as associate pastor at Bridgeway Community Church, Swift Current, Sask., beginning his ministry there Oct. 1. He holds a BA in strategic ministries from Millar College of the Bible, Pambrun, Sask., and served as pastoral intern at Kelstern Community Church from September 2011 to April 2012. He married Chantel Brink in November.

North Peace MB Church, Fort St. John, B.C., welcomed Aldon Loeppky as transitional pastor in June. Aldon has studied at Briercrest Seminary, Caronport, Sask., MBBS–Fresno, and ACTS Seminaries, Langley, B.C. Over 15 years, he pastored several MB churches in B.C. He has worked with Truth Media at Power to Change, and most recently served as advancement officer for MBBS Canada in B.C. and Alberta. Aldon and Betty have 3 adult children and 6 grandchildren. From 1999–2011, Les Riediger was lead pastor at North Peace MB; he currently serves as community care pastor at McIvor Avenue MB Church, Winnipeg. North Peace also bade farewell to children’s pastor Rudy Evans who resigned in August and is currently serving at Broadview (Evangelical Free) Church, Salmon Arm, B.C.

Jubilee Mennonite Church, Winnipeg, held a service of ordination Oct. 21 to affirm Wanda Derksen in her calling and ongoing ministry as chaplain at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home, Winnipeg, where she has served since 2007. (Jubilee is a joint Mennonite Church Canada–Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba congregation.) MBCM conference minister Keith Poysti officiated and pastor Dan Nighswander gave a meditation.

Lead pastor at Fort Garry MB Church, Winnipeg, since 2004, John Unger announced his intention to retire June 2013. He also pastored Richmond Park, Brandon, Man., 1989–1999, and served as president of Concord College 1999–2003, during the transition into Canadian Mennonite University, Winnipeg.

Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba executive director Elton DaSilva announced the departure of church planting director Russ Toews at the end of 2012. Formerly director of mission and church extension, Russ served the Manitoba conference for the past 7 years. “As a conference we remain committed to planting new churches and will increase our efforts toward that end,” says Elton. Russ is waiting on God for future ministry.
