John Neufeld completed his assignment in leadership development with the Canadian Conference of MB Churches at the end of August. He returned to pastoral ministry as lead pastor of The Meeting Place, Winnipeg, at the beginning of September. John is married to Rose and they have two children, Levi and Jillian. A search has begun for John’s replacement at the Canadian conference.

Karla Braun joined the MB Herald team in July as assistant editor, replacing Andrew Siebert who resigned at the end of May. Karla has a BA from the university of Winnipeg and previously worked as an editorial assistant at Christian Week newspaper. She recently returned to Canada after spending a year in Cameroon as a missionary support worker, and is a member of Crossroads MB Church, Winnipeg.

In June, Carlin Weinhauer retired from his position of Lead Team – Mobilization with Mennonite Brethren Mission and Service International (MBMSI) in Abbotsford, B.C. Carlin served with MBMSI from 2005–2008, following a fruitful ministry at Willingdon MB Church and 15 years of teaching at Briercrest Bible College in Caronport, Sask. In retirement, Carlin and his wife Marcia plan to engage in some short-term MBMSI projects as the Lord leads.

Dan Weare was appointed as chief executive officer of Ten Thousand Villages Canada, based in New Hamburg, Ont., at the beginning of August. Dan comes to Ten Thousand Villages with years of leadership in the retail business, including 30 years with Sears Canada. While at Sears, Dan was responsible for developing and operating the company’s freestanding Home Store concept into a successful chain of 55 stores.

Four new faculty were appointed at Canadian Mennonite University, Winnipeg. Jennifer Lin was appointed assistant professor of music therapy. Jennifer, a certified music therapist, has an MA in music therapy from New York University, a MMus from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and a BMus in flute performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music.

John Brubacher was appointed assistant professor of biology. John, who is CMU’s first full-time biology professor, is a PhD candidate in zoology from the University of Manitoba. He has MSc and BSc degrees from the University of Waterloo.

Vonda Plett was appointed assistant professor of psychology. Vonda has a PhD in psychology from the University of Saskatchewan, as well as an MA in applied social psychology and a BA in psychology from the same school. She also has a BRE from Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford, B.C.

Craig Martin has been appointed assistant professor of business and organizational administration. Craig, a PhD candidate in agricultural economics and business at the University of Guelph, was a research associate and lecturer in the department of agricultural economics and business at that university from 2001 to 2003.

Bethany College, Hepburn, Sask., welcomed Jennica Willems Geddert as instructor in Bible and theology. Jennica has studied at Concord College, Winnipeg; the University of Winnipeg; MB Biblical Seminary, Fresno; and Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, Cal. She is married to Matthew.

Also at Bethany, Joy Nokinsky joined the team as director of advancement. Joy brings significant experience in college promotion from her years at Providence College and Seminary, and is married to Jesse.

Sherry Heidebrecht resigned as dean of student development, a role she had since 2005, and Dave Pauls completed his post as director of advancement after 6 years of service.
