Kevin Smith began Sept. 4 as lead pastor at Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church, St. Catharines, Ont. Kevin has a BA from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ont., an MDiv from Tyndale Seminary, Toronto, and an MTh from Bethel Theological Seminary, St. Paul, Minn. He also did further studies at the department of Near Eastern studies, University of Toronto and Toronto School of Theology. Kevin has served within the Canadian Baptist family as a lead pastor for more than 24 years in Toronto, Nova Scotia, and, most recently, at First Baptist Church, Kingston, Ont. Kevin and Anne-Marie have 4 children. Don Craw served as intentional interim pastor from 2009 to 2012. He is available to help other churches seeking a new direction with Christ at the centre of their ministries.

West Portal Church, Saskatoon, welcomed two new part-time staff to fill out its children’s ministry team in fall. Children’s minister Lisa Moran  (pictured right) oversees the elementary-aged ministry, including Sunday school and a monthly fellowship and outreach event. She partners with new children’s minister assistant and long-time West Portal member Aimee Meinema (left) in planning summer children events and seasonal events. Aimee also oversees nursery and preschool Sunday school, and then partners with Lisa for special events. Aimee and Jeremy have 3 children. Children’s ministry was previously led by Adrea Logan in a one-year interim position.

J Edward Epp has been hired as director of development for the U.S. MB conference. A graduate of MBBS, Fresno, Cal., Epp has pastored in USMB congregations for 16 years and served various conference boards. He will work from his home in Henderson, Neb.

With lead pastor Rob Thiessen taking on the mantle of conference minister for the B.C. MB conference, North Langley Community Church affirmed Matthew Price as interim lead pastor, beginning Sept. 17. He previously served the congregation for 5 years as pastor of night church and high school ministries. Matthew holds a masters in Christian studies from Regent College, Vancouver. He and Tanya are expecting their first child in October.

Carol Heynen
was affirmed as associate pastor of worship arts for the liturgical congregation at Bakerview MB Church, Abbotsford, B.C. She began her duties Sept. 1. She has a BMus from the University of Lethbridge, Alta., an MATS from Briercrest College and Seminary, Caronport, Sask., and has previously worked as dean of women at Columbia Bible College, Abbotsford, B.C. (2009–2011), and as resident director at Briercrest (1999–2006).

Paul Truman
started as lead pastor at Heritage Mountain Community Church, Port Moody, B.C., Apr. 1. He has a BA from North American Baptist College, Edmonton, Alta., and an MDiv from Trinity Western Seminary, Langley, B.C., and has pastored in local churches for the past 15 years. Paul and Karis and have 3 children.
