Canadian baritone George Beverly Shea was honoured with a Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award. At innumerable Billy Graham Crusades since 1947, in addition to preparing crowds for the gospel, Shea’s hymns were responsible for calming Billy Graham’s nerves before he took the stage to preach. With more than 70 recordings, at 102, Shea has lived long enough to know many of the writers of his favourite hymns personally. Friend and colleague Michael W. Smith describes Shea as “a source of inspiration to millions, a gifted man, with a great heart, who has lived his life as a faithful friend, and in doing so has changed the world.”—Grammy.com
