On her Facebook page, bestselling author Anne Rice “unconverted.” She wrote, “For those who care, and I understand if you don’t: Today I quit being a Christian. I’m out. I remain committed to Christ as always but not to being ‘Christian’ or to being part of Christianity. It’s simply impossible for me to ‘belong’ to this quarrelsome, hostile, disputatious, and deservedly infamous group.” Many did care, commending her in papers from the Washington Post to the LA Times to the National Catholic Reporter. Quebec’s Dying with Dignity Special Commission on the growing demand for legalized euthanasia began Sept. 7. The Quebec College of Physicians has come out in favour, bolstered by a poll that showed 70 percent of Quebeckers support euthanasia. A trio of prominent doctors told the commission the push for euthanasia results from poor pain treatment, and argued that the poor, weak, and elderly would be preyed upon by unscrupulous caregivers.—Canadian Press

According to a 2008–09 survey of 1,000 University of California students, only 18 percent of students claiming to be evangelical believed sex before marriage was always wrong. The “guilt gap” is huge: 29 percent more evangelicals have had sex than think there is nothing morally wrong with it. Some 32% of evangelical students said they felt distant from God after their last sexual encounter.—Huffington Post
