Two charter members were present at the 65th anniversary celebration of Scott Street MB Church, St. Catharines, Ont. Both age five at the time, Mary Dick, daughter of the first pastor, Gerhard J. Epp, attended the Nov. 6 evening service, as did Herb Hiebert, who shared memories of the first service.

The anniversary service began with communion and a time of sharing, followed by a time of fellowship and a birthday party in the church’s gymnasium.

In accordance with the motto “Seeking, Serving, Sending,” pastor Patrick Bartley said the church is planning to send a team to Uruguay “to work with our missionaries Sieg and Yvonne Klassen and the Eagles Wings project.”

“Locally, we are also involved in community activities that introduce us to the neighbourhood, letting them know who we are. Every second Saturday, for example, we provide activities for children in Grades 1–7 at Old Pine Trail, a housing complex near the church,” said Bartley.

Scott Street MB Church has also been involved in local church planting. Both Grantham and Fairview MB churches in St. Catharines were started by Scott Street.

The church was formally organized on November 6, 1943 and called St. Catharines MB Church. The congregation met for the first few years in a rented hall, moving into their own building in 1949, followed by more extensive construction in 1964.
