Quebec conference rallies around the church

The Quebec MB conference (AEFMQ) met Sept. 13 at the community centre in Thérèse de Blainville for the annual rally. Stéphane Rhéaume, pastor at the Saint-Eustache church and church health associate for Horizon Quebec, was the speaker.

AEFMQ president Charles Martin introduced the day’s theme, “Building today the church of tomorrow,” and unveiled the new conference logo. An audiovisual montage presented the eight conference agencies and partner ministries. Canadian conference director of ministries Ewald Unruh encouraged the conference to support their projects. Outgoing youth ministries coordinator Joakim Veilleux was recognized for his services with the youth of the conference.

In his meditation based on Matthew 16:18, Stéphane Rhéaume developed the theme of the rally, while reminding the conference to follow the purpose of Christ in building his church through the Horizon Quebec project. The goal of Horizon Quebec is to develop the church and its agencies over the next five to ten years. Building the church is an imperative, he said, because the church is the agent and instrument of God’s kingdom on earth, and demonstrates the reality of the kingdom to the eyes of a watching world.

Three ingredients essential to building the church, said Rhéaume, are: many workers who encourage each other, workers who are personally engaged in the mission, and workers with a positive attitude. When the task of building is difficult, it’s important to be grateful to God above all, remembering that the work of God is accomplished in his time, and his way. Christian service happens in the context of history, he said; the church of today is but a link in the chain.

Pastor David Miller and his team from L’Intersection Terrebonne led singing at the rally. The gathering concluded with a fellowship lunch.
