Walter Maier died May 12, 2010. He was born Nov. 5, 1924 in Schuler, Alta. to John and Frederica Maier. Walter married Helga Kornelsen June 1, 1957, in Coaldale, Alta. Walter farmed near Schuler, drove school bus, and served Schuler Church of God and the Drowning Ford Grazing Association until retiring in 1985 to Medicine Hat, Alta. There he volunteered for many organizations, including driving bus for Southview Kiddie Kampus, where he was known as “Mr. Walter.” Walter loved walking and biking in nature. He liked woodworking, especially making toys for his grandchildren. He read widely and enjoyed travelling. He will be remembered for his patient and gentle spirit. Walter is mourned by Helga; children Darrel (Winona), Carla (Hendrik)Van der Breggen, Rod (LeAnne), Laurel (Jay) McLennan, Susan (Graeme) Lauber; 12 grandchildren; 2 siblings. The memorial was at Crestwood MB Church, Medicine Hat.
