Nicholas Thiessen died Sept. 30, 2010. He was born Jan. 17, 1922 in Omsk, Russia to Dietrich and Helena Thiessen. They immigrated to Canada in 1925 on the Meletta and lived in Manitoba until moving to a farm near Abbotsford, B.C., in 1929. Nick attended school until age 12 when he began helping full-time on the farm. His family cleared the land for the original Abbotsford Airport. During WWII, Nick served as a conscientious objector in B.C. after he was conscripted in 1941. In 1946, Nick married Hilda Neufeld and they lived in Abbotsford. In 1949, they moved to Powell River, B.C., where Nick worked at logging contracts. In 1963, he became a life insurance consultant until his retirement in 1995. In 1972, Nick and Hilda moved back to Abbotsford, B.C., to be close to grandchildren. In January 1991, Hilda passed away. Nick married Anne Janzen in August 1991. He joined Bakerview MB Church, Abbotsford, B.C., in 1991. In every church he attended, Nick served wherever needed: as deacon, usher, teacher, or participant in home groups and visitation ministries. He loved to pray and worship. His health deteriorated after heart surgery in 2000. He lived at Ebenezer home in 2008 and relocated to Tabor Home in 2009. Predeceased by Hilda, infant son Danny Roy, infant daughter Judy Marie, 2 brothers; Nick is mourned by Anne; daughters Eileen, Louella (Paul); 2 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; foster-grandchildren; stepchildren Bonnie (Edwin), Larry (Lynn), Wendy (Warren) and their families; 6 siblings; in-laws.
