margaret_toewsMargaret Toews died Apr. 14 at age 101. She was born Feb. 12, 1907 to Jacob and Margaretha Dyck in Main Centre, Sask. Her parents died while she was a pre-teen so she was raised by her mother’s relatives in Winkler, Man. She met and married Abram Toews in 1929. They farmed north of Morden, Man., and attended the Morden MB Church. With six children and a house and farm to tend to, she didn’t have a lot of spare time, but they made it through the Dirty Thirties. She sewed for her children, enjoyed her garden, helped her husband with farm chores, and cooked delicious meals. Margaret had a great concern for the spiritual welfare of her children. She took her family to church every Sunday and taught Sunday school to the children. In 1966, Margaret and Abram retired to Kelowna, B.C. Margaret made many layettes and quilts for Mennonite Central Committee. She enjoyed trips to the United States, especially California. Predeceased by Abram in 1989, son Menno in 1955; she is mourned by children Abe (Anne), Jake (Elsie), Grace, Esther (John) Rempel, and Bill (Eugenie); 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter.
