New faces on the executive board

The executive board provides overall direction, governance, and fiduciary oversight to the Canadian MB Conference. Here’s a brief introduction to some of its newer members, affirmed at Gathering 2012.

—Eds.

Name: Karen West

Position: Ontario moderator

Profession: Pastor, Waterloo (Ont.) MB Church

Family: Married; 2 grown children

In your opinion, what is the greatest challenge of the executive board?
Determining how best to keep such a large and very diverse group of individuals aware of the necessary information and processes, without having direct contact.

Name: Val Martens

Position: Alberta moderator

Profession: Owner/Artist of Joyful Face Painting

Church: River West Christian (MB) Church, Edmonton

Family: Married to Larry; 2 sons, 1 daughter

What do you hope to see the executive board accomplish for the Canadian conference?

I want to see the board glorifying God in all we do. This includes moving toward a greater collaboration and unity between provinces and churches, and better communication on all levels.

Update: After Gathering 2012, Len Penner took the office of assistant moderator; Victor Martens, secretary. Both were previously members at large. Since study conference 2011, Brian Cooper (BFL chair) and Terrance Froese (BFL vice chair) represent the board of faith and life (BFL) on the executive board.

Note: Other executive board members were introduced in JulyOctober 2009, November 2010 issues of the MB Herald.
