Westwood Mennonite Brethren Church in Prince George, B.C., celebrated “50 Years of Sharing Jesus” May 21–23. Former attendees came from across B.C. and beyond to reconnect with old friends and to make new friends with people in the current Westwood family. The activities included tours of the most recent addition to the church, a quiz covering 50 years of Prince George history and, of course, coffee and desserts.

Saturday featured tours of Westwood’s two former church buildings and the campus of the University of Northern British Columbia. A celebration banquet completed the day, featuring speakers Neil Funk (pastor, 1968–74) and B.C. MB conference pastor Steve Berg. Ten of the original 26 charter members were recognized, and each received a copy of the commemorative book, 50 Years of Sharing Jesus, produced for the occasion.

Sunday morning service was held at the Prince George Civic Centre auditorium to accommodate the entire congregation. A mass choir under the direction of Tim Huebert sang, and former pastor Mel Fehr was the guest speaker. The weekend of celebration closed with a musical afternoon featuring a performance by pianist and cellist Linda Stobbe and Joel Stobbe and some hearty hymn singing. The theme verse, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8), found special expression in the weekend’s mission project which exceeded the goal of raising $20,000 for a church plant in central Asia where MBMSI missionaries and Westwood church members Rob and Marlene Baerg are serving. The members at Westwood look forward to another 50 years and more of following their mission: “bringing Jesus into life.”
