The USMB leadership board has named Don Morris as the interim USMB executive director and will be retaining a consultant to guide the board and other key USMB leaders through a structural review process.

Morris is the director of Mission USA and has led USMB church planting and church health initiatives since 2004. Morris will continue to work from his office in Edmond, Okla., and, beginning in August, he will be assisted by Lori Taylor, current assistant to executive director Ed Boschman. She will be maintaining the USMB West Coast mailing office.

“The leadership board has complete confidence in Don and his ability to carry the torch of leadership well during this interim period,” says Steve Schroeder, chair of the leadership board. “Don is very familiar with the expectations we have of our executive director, and he will do a superb job of covering these responsibilities. Clearly, he will not be expected to do two jobs. But we believe we have found a workable way for him to be our interim director.”

The retirement of Ed Boschman, who has served as the USMB executive director since 2007, provides a natural opportunity to review the overall health and vitality of the denomination, said Schroeder.

“We believe that this time of transition is a God-given opportunity to re-evaluate the role of the national office and the effectiveness of our current denomination structures,” says Schroeder. “We have consulted with our district ministers, and they are in full support of this. Recognizing that we are living in a day when many denominations are on the decline, we will be securing the services of someone from the ‘outside’ who brings years of experience in helping denominations regain vitality. We want to do something now to insure that we can remain as effective as possible in our collaborative ministry efforts.”

The leadership board expects the review to take six months to a year and that the results will assist the board in determining what skill set will be needed by the next executive director.
