Knowing and Living Your Faith, a commentary and study guide on the International Community of Mennonite Brethren (ICOMB) Confession of Faith released in June, is a 130-page booklet prepared by 16 international leaders. All global MB churches are encouraged to use the resource for Bible-intensive study between Sept. 2008–Dec. 2009.

The following writers contributed their wisdom and creativity to the project.

César García is president of the Mennonite Brethren Churches of Colombia and professor of Bible and theology at the Center for Ministry Development, Bogotá. He is also pastor of Strong Tower Church. His chapter, “Reconciliation and Peacemaking,” begins with the story of Javier, a high-ranking soldier who became a pacifist. García writes, “Returning good for evil is one kind of response to aggression. Being a pacifist is not a passive option.”

Takashi Manabe, president of the Evangelical Bible Seminary in Osaka, Japan, is also pastor of Ishibashi Christ Church. He holds a doctorate from Dallas Theological Seminary, Texas. A convert from Buddhism, he explains that “the Jew who was named Jesus is that person who was prophesied in the Old Testament as Messiah; it is he who does the expected great work of God in history.”

Arthur Dück of Brazil is director of the Faculdade Fidelis Christian College in Curitiba, where he is also professor of intercultural studies.  His doctorate in intercultural studies is from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Ill. Writing about “Learning about the Holy Spirit,” Dück reflects on “the change agent,” “the energizing Spirit,” “a spotlight that points toward Jesus,” and distinguishing the Spirit’s promptings from other promptings.
