In May, the MB Herald was recognized by magazine industry peers with 11 awards at the Canadian Church Press (CCP) and Evangelical Press Association’s (EPA) annual conventions.

Poet Sarah Klassen won a first place prize at both the CCP and EPA for her poem “Travel Advisory II,” while editor Laura Kalmar also took home two awards for her editorial entitled, “A real royal watcher.”

Jennifer Doede received second place in the EPA’s “General article: short” category for “Reading good literature: Unsettling our lives.” At the CCP, theologian Doug Heidebrecht received third place honours for his theological reflection, “Community hermeneutics explained,” while third also went to CMU professor Gordon Matties for his biblical interpretation, “You save humans and animals alike, Lord.” Interim editor J Janzen won third for his June 2011 interview, “Becoming a house of prayer for all nations,” and Krista Reimer also received a third place award for excellence in original artwork for her painting entitled “Impression,” featured on our August 2011 cover (above).

“It’s an honour to work with such talented writers and artists,” says editor Laura Kalmar. “We strive to make the MB Herald a place to encourage and enrich one another, as we continue to build a Canadian Mennonite Brethren community of faith.”
