A blended understanding

Re “On a journey toward Jesus” (Outfront, December). I was raised in a Christian community in which a bounded set (specific lifestyle expectations) existed within the context of a centred set (putting Jesus at the centre of our lives). Is that understanding not preferable to the current call for a choice between the two sets?

Countercultural confusion

Re “Rednecks, redemption and reality TV” (Hogg Wild, February). Sure, Duck Dynasty can be really entertaining. But “countercultural” as Bill Hogg suggests? Historically, “countercultural” for Anabaptists/Mennonites has meant
conscientious withdrawal from power and consumerism. Duck Dynasty hardly qualifies.

Re:Robert Martens comments on Duck Dynasty and Redneck Redemption.
I think ya missed the point bruthah …
The big idea in my article was to take a cue from the Robertson clan and make much of Jesus . lThe gospel invites us to lives of uninhibited devotion and affection to and for Jesus . The Robertsons have consistently pointed to jesus in their varied circles of influence.Sure I did say : “a faithful gospel witness will not only be good news – but also dissonant and countercultural at times.” But the main point was to seize and steward our God given platforms for the gospel.
