Ben Horch’s collection of music, hymnbooks, correspondence, photos, and family papers resides at the Centre for Mennonite Brethren Studies. Horch was one of Canada’s most influential and charismatic musical leaders of his time, and taught at MB Bible College in Winnipeg. This large and rich collection was augmented by interviews collected by Peter Letkemann in preparation for a 490-page biography, published in 2007. Thanks to funding from the Government of Canada through Library and Archives Canada, summer project worker Meribeth Plenert of Dawson Creek, B.C., was hired to process the collection. After Plenert’s stint in the archives, she applied to the University of B.C. to further her education in archival studies.

A finding aid is now available on the Centre’s website (www.mbconf.ca/home/ministries/history/), as well as the national catalogue (a central database accessible to archives across Canada), facilitating access to this unique collection for Canadians.

The Ben Horch Story is sold at the Centre for Mennonite Brethren Studies.

Conrad Stoesz is archivist at the Centre for Mennonite Brethren Studies, and at the Mennonite Heritage Centre.
