Fifty writers from most of the 18 member conferences of International Community of Mennonite Brethren (ICOMB) are prepared to bless the 300,000 members of the global MB church through short devotionals available on the internet. The gift, authorized by the ICOMB executive, consists of 50 meditations for the 50 days between Easter and Pentecost of 2010.

The online devotionals can be read on screen or printed, duplicated, and distributed in local churches. Audio versions will be available for download as podcasts.

In the spirit of Joel 2:28–29, the devotionals will be prepared by men and women, old and young, and therefore not limited to those in “official” positions. Administrators of schools, colleges, and seminaries selected the writers. Editor Harold Ens, director of MBMSI for 12 years, brings an understanding of the context of the writers. In addition to edifying believers and enhancing unity, the devotionals will allow voices of a broad cross-section of the church to be heard.

The devotionals will be submitted in English to the editor who will seek to have them translated into the major languages used by Mennonite Brethren. Alden Poetker, a media consultant in Fresno will provide the technical expertise to post the devotionals on the forthcoming Global Learning Network website.

The vision for this endeavour, part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the MB church, came out of discussions at the MWC Assembly 2009 in Paraguay. Marlene Enns of Paraguay, Tshikay Godet of Congo, and Mary Anne Isaak of Fresno birthed the idea. The steering committee consists of Harold Ens, Mary Anne Isaak, Elmer Martens, and Alden Poetker, all of Fresno, Cal.
