Of Gods and Men
Xavier Beauvois, director

120 minutes

How do you make decisions as a community when harsh realities challenge the beliefs and aspirations of the group? How do you love your neighbour when your lives are threatened by groups bent on intimidation and violence? These are questions our Anabaptist forebears faced, and they are questions explored in Of Gods and Men, a film based on the true story of nine Trappist monks in a remote monastery in Algeria during the 1996 civil war. Spare and generously paced, the French film (subtitled into English) won the Grand Prix at the 2010 Cannes International Film Festival.
