The Promise

Father’s Daughter
Self released, 2008

The latest release from Father’s Daughter demonstrates the saying, “there’s nothing like a family blend when it comes to harmony.” The Promise, the group’s second CD, does not disappoint. Creative harmonies combined with great musical arrangements and biblically sound lyrics add up to an enriching, entertaining listening experience.

As their name suggests, Father’s Daughter is made up of dad Ed (accompanying on piano and guitar) and three of his daughters, Sonja, Emily, and Rachel. Not unlike popular groups The Martins, The Talley Trio, and Crossway, Father’s Daughter evidences a family rich with musical heritage and ability. While the harmonies characteristic of the southern gospel genre are very much part of Father’s Daughter’s style, this group will appeal to the broader contemporary Christian music audience as well.

The tracks “So High” and “Give it Away” are energetic and upbeat while remaining lyrically challenging. The David Meece classic, “We are the Reason,” takes on new life in this powerful arrangement. The title track, “The Promise,” confronts the listener with the truths of Scripture while offering hope and comfort. Many of the 10 tracks on the CD showcase inspiring solo segments and all climax with beautiful harmonies.

The CD is well engineered and produced by Chris Janz and the recording stays true to the sound of Father’s Daughter’s live performances. This CD would be a great addition to any collection. The Father’s Daughter CD release concert held Aug. 29 in Abbotsford, B.C., confirmed the message at the heart of the recording. This family is all about using their gifts and talents to glorify God and to make his name known, and they do it in a way that would make any Father proud.
