Russländer Tribute Fundraising Banquet
May 25 @ 16:00 - 21:00
As the new Executive Director and one who has experienced genocide and upheaval it gives me deep joy to invite you to the Mennonite Heritage Village (MHV) for our 2019 Russländer Fundraising Tribute Banquet on May 25. The event will commemorate the historic arrival in Canada of nearly 25,000 Mennonites who fled violence, trauma, and hardship in the Soviet Union in the 1920s, commonly known as the “Russländer.” The evening will begin with a commemorative service in the Lichtenau Church, the first church built by the Russländer Mennonites in Manitoba, and will feature the grand opening of MHV’s exhibit “The Russländer.” We will end the evening with a banquet, with music and special programming all focused on the experience of the Russländer in the Soviet Union and Canada. I assure you it will be meaningful and relevant for all of us.
Tickets are $75 and include the special service in Lichtenau Church, admission and curator tours of the new exhibit, and the banquet. All funds raised at the event will go toward the roof replacement project for the Village Centre, MHV’s main building, which is in urgent need of replacement.
