Begun Jan. 1, 1988, Glencairn MB Church, Kitchener, Ont., celebrated their 25th anniversary with a special morning service and lasagna lunch Jan. 27, 2013. New Year’s Eve of 1987, “mother” church Kitchener MB blessed and sent 79 people to form the new congregation, the fruition of a vision planted in 1984. Land was purchased in 1985, construction started in 1987. Beginning with Paul Unger (called from Clearbrook, B.C.), 5 lead pastors have served the congregation alongside 2 associates, 1 youth pastor, and 1 interim pastor. In the early years, many young families joined the church. Nearly all members were involved on committees, teaching Sunday school, and many families took on weekly cleaning duties. For a period in the 1990s, the church held three services – 1 Saturday evening, 2 Sunday morning – but in 2001 returned to one Sunday service. In 2000, 6 portables were added to serve as offices and Sunday school space. Foodbank ministry Bridges, started in 1997, distributes food and clothing to some 60 families 2 Saturdays per month. Currently, lead pastor Bill Stubbs shepherds the congregation of 241 members.
