On Jan. 29, 2010, the Canadian Conference of MB Churches executive board accepted the resignation of executive director David Wiebe. Wiebe plans to serve through Celebration 2010 in July, and until a replacement is found, but no later than Dec. 31.
Wiebe joined CCMBC staff in 1989, serving as director of Christian education until 2000, then as executive minister. After governance restructuring in 2004, his official title became executive director.
Representing Canadian MBs in the wider Mennonite world, Wiebe participated in the International Community of Mennonite Brethren (ICOMB) from 2001–present, serving as secretary since 2002, and was on the Mennonite World Conference (MWC) executive from 2003–2009.
Prior to work at the conference, Wiebe studied at MB Biblical Seminary–Fresno, and served as associate pastor at Portage Avenue MB Church, Winnipeg.
“Dave’s pastoral and relational gifts have provided stability during a time of change, harmonized the working relationship between our national and provincial conferences, and raised the profile of Canadian MBs internationally due to his highly respected work with ICOMB and MWC,” says conference moderator Jascha Boge.
As executive director, Wiebe is part of the board of faith and life (BFL) and works at connecting with churches across Canada.
Wiebe’s service to the conference will be formally recognized at Gathering 2010 in July.
