Although the German-language publication Die Mennonitische Rundschau ceased publication in 2007, the publishing arm of Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches is not now monolingual.

With concentrations of French speakers in Quebec, and Cantonese and Mandarin speakers in B.C., the conference produces magazines in these languages, in addition to the MB Herald, which serves the majority of Canadian MBs.

The MB Chinese Herald, edited by Joseph Kwan, has been in print since 1992, serving more than 19 churches and some individual subscribers, with 6 issues a year. Articles are printed in Chinese characters, intelligible for both Cantonese and Mandarin speakers, with the occasional article in English. Readers are concentrated in B.C., but include a Chinese church in Winnipeg, one in Calgary, and some Cantonese or Mandarin-speaking individuals at English-language churches across Canada. The MB Chinese Herald’s print run is currently 1,300.

Le Lien is the conference’s French-language publication, begun in December 1980 as a 4- or 8-page supplement to the MB Herald. The name Le Lien, meaning “the link,” was introduced in 1982. Edited by Jean Biéri, the bimonthly magazine aims to teach, encourage, and stimulate reflection on Christian life in the world today. Its readers and contributors are largely based in Quebec, but it also sends copies to 55 subscribers elsewhere in Canada, France, DR Congo, Burkina Faso, Switzerland, Belgium, and the U.S.

As part of a new possible direction for the magazine, 5,000 copies of the May-June edition were printed for distribution in the wider Christian community in Montreal.

Members of MB churches are entitled to receive one conference publication without charge. A secondary subscription to Le Lien (email lelien@mbconf.ca) costs $15 per year within Canada, $21 international. To subscribe to the MB Chinese Herald, email chineseherald@mbconf.ca.

The publications are online under Ministries – Publications at www.mbconf.ca.—KB
