B.C. youth flock to spring rallies

Five years ago, Willow Park (MB) Church in Kelowna launched its first early-spring youth rally. It was a hit, and each year kept growing. Then, last year, the organizers ran out of space and reluctantly put a cap on registration.

This year, Willow Park youth pastor Joel Feddersen and his committee made an effort to remove the cap. They talked to churches, talked to local hotels about special arrangements, and worked hard to find accommodation. They were able to remove the cap.

So, the 2009 edition of Rush brought in 1,700 young people from all over B.C. and Alberta. Featured guest speaker was Shane Claiborne, author of The Irresistible Revolution. Featured band was Starfield. Feddersen says “RUSH’09 was by far the best year ever. God is at work!”

Meanwhile, Stillwood Camp and Conference Centre near Chilliwack drew more than 200 Grade 10–12 students from southwestern B.C. to its early-March event, Surge. Featured speaker was Bill Hog, who pioneered Youth for Christ in Scotland.
