Congratulations to authors Dora Dueck and Sarah Klassen whose books were shortlisted for the 2013 Manitoba Book Awards!

What you Get at Home by Jubilee Mennonite Church member and former MB Herald editor Dora Dueck is nominated for the Carol Shields Book Award and the Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction. A review of this collection of short stories, appeared in the February MB Herald. Dueck’s novels include This Hidden Thing (winner of the McNally Robinson book of the year award in 2011) and Under the Still Standing Sun.

Sarah Klassen cropRiver East MB Church member Sarah Klassen’s latest work of poetry, monstrance, was nominated for the McNally Robinson book of the year award and the Aqua Books Lansdowne Prize for Poetry. “The shepherd’s wish list,” a selection from this volume, appeared in the December 2012 MB Herald. Klassen is the author of nine books, including High Plains Award-winning short story collection A Feast of Longing, and her Gerald Lampert Memorial Award-winning debut poetry book, Journey to Yalta.

The awards will be presented at the Manitoba Book Awards gala, Apr. 28, at the West End Cultural Centre, Winnipeg.
