About this issue, and a personal note

The Christmas season holds in holy tension the extremes of the incarnation, between the “Lord of lords, and king of kings” of the Hallelujah chorus, and the lullabies cooed because God came as an infant.

The feature articles in this issue – on the life of Joseph, on the commitment of a growing band of MoveIn-ers to multi-ethnic, economically challenged neighbourhoods – focus on the earth end of Christmas. The “ordinary” doesn’t diminish the miracle of Christmas, however. Rather, it reveals how incomparable and gracious is its reach.

On a personal note, this issue marks my last as interim editor. To Laura Kalmar, a warm welcome back from your maternity leave and God’s best as you take up the editor’s post again. To the Herald staff, my thanks for your excellent work and support, and to all our writers and readers, much gratitude as well.

Next month: a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Mennonite Brethren church.
