“Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other” (Mark 10:50). The rich metaphor of salt, linked with peace, reminds that peacemaking isn’t passive but full of strength, flavour, character. The articles by John Derksen and Angeline Schellenberg describe some of its necessary creativity. (The cover’s boots speak to the “character” of peace developed over its long-haul practice.) Abe Dueck’s piece on Jakob Reimer is the first of a series of occasional stories we’ll carry over the next year in honour of the 150th anniversary of the Mennonite Brethren movement. And, as always, it’s good to have senior theologian David Ewert in our pages, this time with our Text Message column.

Next month’s Herald will feature reports on the study conference, assistant editor Karla Braun’s visit to “MoveIn” in Toronto, and Doug Koop on the importance of fathers.
