February Transitions 2013
David Gibson began as lead pastor at Lakeview Community Church, Killarney, Man., Jan. 17. A recent graduate of MBBS-ACTS, Langley, B.C., with an MA in Christian Studies, specializing in church and pastoral ministries, David has served his home church Sardis Community (MB) Church, Chilliwack, B.C., in a variety of capacities including lead team member, lay preacher, adult Sunday school teacher, and pastoral care team member, among others. He also completed a 7-month practicum with Greendale MB Church, Chilliwack. David holds an MSc in animal nutrition and has some 29 years’ experience of working in agriculture – including on the Prairies, overseas, and in B.C. David and April have 3 grown daughters. Stefan Bauer served as lead pastor at Lakeview 2005–2012, and John Klassen served in the interim.
Bethany College adjusted academic staff roles in fall. With the job of academic dean expanding, the board and leadership team appointed Gil Dueck as academic dean to focus on strategic direction, accreditation renewal, and faculty oversight. Rick McCorkindale, who deals with the tactical, practical, day-to-day and student academic functions of the college now carries the title of registrar. Bethany’s approach to education “values the place of academics within the church while continually seeking to integrate it within a holistic model of Christian discipleship,” says Dueck. He looks forward to the “opportunity to give leadership in this vital area.”
Paul McIlwraith, pastor at Waterloo (Ont.) MB Church for 15 years, most recently serving as teaching pastor after stepping out of the role of lead pastor, completed his last Sunday with the congregation Jan. 20. He follows God’s leading into the next chapter of his life as he commences as teaching pastor at North Park Community Church, London, Ont., in February.
